Adult attachment
disorder results from then lack of attachment of the person with an adult
caregiver when he or she was still a child (Evergreen Consultants in Human
Behavior, 2006). When this is lacking, children lack the ability to form
and maintain loving, intimate relationship. Instead, they lack prosocial
values and morality as well as demonstrating aggressive, disruptive and
antisocial behaviours (Evergreen Consultants in Human Behavior, 2006).
When these children become adults, they become anti-social and may engage
in at-risk activities such as drug abuse (Evergreen Consultants in Human
Behavior, 2006).
Statement of the Problem
Attachment disorder is
associated with many negative behaviors. For instance, Fonagy et al.
(1996) found significant associations between affective disorders and
unresolved attachment status. Also, Maunder and Hunter (2001) conducted a
literature review of studies examining attachment status and physical
health and concluded that there is an association between attachment
insecurity and physical illness. Thus, there is a possibility that adults
with attachment disorder are more likely engage into drug abuse.
Objective of the
Study
The aim of
the study is to explore the relationship or correlation between adult
attachment disorder and drug abuse. It aims to conduct an experiment on
several respondents with adult attachment disorder and assess the
likeliness they will engage in drug abuse, as compared with the likeliness
that normal adults would engage in drug abuse.
Methods and Procedure
The study will select
50 adults for experiment. 25 of those adults should have adult attachment
disorder; while 25 of those adults should have experience normal
attachment when they were a child. Having an Adult Attachment Disorder and
not having one will be identified through a psychological survey. After
the survey, the results should determine which category the respondents
should belong. Then, the controlled group will be subjected to an exam
that would determine the risk for drug abuse. The other group, or the
group without adult attachment disorder, will also take the exam.
Analysis
Pearson’s
correlation coefficient will be used to analyze the relationship between
Adult Attachment Disorder and drug abuse. The result of the analysis
should determine if a person with Adult Attachment Disorder is more likely
to engage in drug abuse acts. |
